The practical problem isn't really whether somewhere is open. It's that Thanksgiving concentrates every arrival into the same two days, cuts staffing on the day itself, and leaves you with fewer counters serving more people. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is consistently one of the busiest travel days of the year at both airports, and the counter is where that congestion collects.
The Miami International Rental Car Center facility itself stays open around the clock, but individual operators inside it set their own hours and some close overnight. That distinction catches people out on late arrivals — the building is open, the desk you need may not be.
How we handle it: We're delivery-only, so there's no counter and no storefront. On Thanksgiving Day we run a shortened schedule — 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the last delivery and collection at 3:30 PM. Our normal 5:00 AM to 11:30 PM window applies every other day of the week, including the Wednesday before and the Friday after.
If you're landing on Thanksgiving Day itself after mid-afternoon, take the vehicle on Wednesday instead. It's the more reliable option, it removes the arrival-day scramble entirely, and on a trip running Tuesday to the following Monday it usually pushes you past the seven-day threshold where delivery becomes free.

How to check whether your pickup is actually open
If you've already booked with a counter, don't rely on the hours shown in search results — Google flags holiday hours as estimated for most rental locations, and the standard weekday times displayed are frequently wrong for Thanksgiving Day. Instead:
- Call the specific branch directly, not the national reservations line — hours are set locally.
- Check whether your confirmation email states a holiday schedule. Most don't.
- Ask what happens if your flight is delayed past closing, and whether a key drop is available.
- If the branch can't confirm, treat it as closed and arrange a backup.
That last point is the one that catches people out. An unpublished holiday schedule isn't a technicality — if your plan depends on collecting a vehicle at a specific hour on Thanksgiving Day and nobody will commit to being there, you don't have a plan.

Thanksgiving is the opening weekend of South Florida's high season. Families arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, the beaches fill Friday and Saturday, and everyone leaves Sunday. Vehicle demand tracks that curve exactly, and seating capacity is the first thing to disappear.
Our direct rates run $85 to $115 a day depending on the vehicle, with a discount applied per day as the rental gets longer: 5% off at three days or more, 10% at seven days or more, and 20% at thirty days or more. A booking fee of $10 per day and Florida sales tax of 7.5% apply, and a refundable $250 security deposit is held as a pre-authorization and released three to seven business days after return.
The seven-day threshold matters over Thanksgiving. Delivery and collection are free on rentals of seven days or longer within fifty miles. Shorter rentals carry a flat $120 fee covering both legs. Since many Thanksgiving trips run Tuesday to the following Monday anyway, stretching to seven days often costs less overall than a five-day booking.

Flying into MIA or FLL over Thanksgiving
Answer first: The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is among the busiest days of the year at both airports. Rental counter queues are the single worst bottleneck of that day.
Miami International is the larger and more congested of the two, with rental facilities reached by the MIA Mover people mover rather than sitting at the terminal. Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood is smaller, easier to navigate, and often the calmer arrival even for travelers heading to Miami. Palm Beach International is quieter still if your destination is Boca Raton or points north.

Answer first: We deliver anywhere within fifty miles, which covers all three counties. The Thanksgiving Day 3:30 PM cutoff applies across the whole service area — it isn't shorter the further north you are.

Thanksgiving traffic and driving in South Florida
Answer first: The Wednesday before and the Sunday after are the two worst driving days of the week on I-95. Add 30 to 60 percent to every normal journey time.
I-95 is the region's north–south spine and its main congestion point. Florida's Turnpike is the tolled alternative and usually the faster choice for longer runs. Distances below are measured from Downtown Miami, with typical off-peak times.
